About Upward Ministries

Upward Ministries was born out of a simple question: Where is the Church going?

A few years ago, while serving on the board of directors at my local church, our pastor shared some thoughts that lingered long after the meeting ended. He spoke about the future of the Church—not our church specifically, but church buildings in general. He talked about watching churches close and sensing that the Church, as we’ve known it, may be leaving the building. He wasn’t certain where it was going—only that change seemed to be coming.

That conversation sparked something deeper.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
— Colossians 3:2

Where Could the Church Be Going?

As I reflected on that question, another thought followed: Where is everything going these days?

So much of life now lives at our fingertips. We order food, manage finances, stay connected, and learn new things through our phones and screens. There seems to be an app for almost everything. That led me to wonder—why not something that helps people stay connected to their faith?

I explored the idea of building an app, but quickly realized that creating something meaningful, sustainable, and accessible—especially with little to no cost—wasn’t realistic at the time. But the heart behind the idea remained.

Then it became clear: a website and social media could be a starting place.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
— Matthew 18:20

What Upward Ministries Is (and Is Not)

Upward Ministries is not meant to replace the local church.

The Church is not a building, but it is a gathered people. Scripture calls us to meet together, encourage one another, and live out our faith in community. That remains essential.

This ministry exists to support the Church—not compete with it.

My hope is that Upward Ministries helps people:

  • Stay connected to prayer
  • Reflect on Scripture and faith in everyday life
  • Feel encouraged when they feel distant, overwhelmed, or unsure
  • Take small, meaningful steps toward Jesus

And maybe—through that—help people reconnect with or discover a local church community where they can belong and grow.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.”
— Hebrews 10:24–25

Why “Upward”?

The name reflects a posture of the heart.

In prayer.
In reflection.
In uncertainty.
In growth.

Upward Ministries exists to gently lift our eyes—away from noise, distraction, and fear—and back toward Christ.

“My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
— Psalm 121:2
